One mountain too far

Thesis stands at the the top of the daunting cliff-face happy with how these gloves perform. But he realises now that they are no good to him when he is adventuring with his friends. He can't do without wearing his armour and so he can't use the gloves.

He resolves, reluctantly to return the gloves to the hoard to be bid for or sold. Trouble is he now has not taken anything from the last adventure aside from cash and hopes he can do a little better next time.

Why can't he use them?
There's nothing in the rules stating he can't use them with armour and the Elven chainmail Thesis is wearing counts as light armour and only has a -2 penalty for skills!
If he wants to sell them though, Mendez will happily buy them for and even 4,000gp.
A profit of 875gp!
Mendez doesn't really need them though. He can already climb and swim pretty well.
So if anyone else wants them...

I am not entirely sure - maybe PCGen is wrong. Maybe it is treating Elven chain as ordinary chainmail for the purposes of including gauntlets?

If I can't use them I am extremely miffed at not getting any good magic out of the adventure. And I am reluctant to ask Eolar to make something as it costs him XP.

The elven chain is still a chain mail which includes gauntlets, automatically taking the space of gloves.
Just because the armour is made of mithral and therefore considered light armour for purposes of penalty calculations doesn't change it's nature.

Since the armour adds -2 to climb and -4 to swim, the +5 from the gloves are mostly cancelled out anyway :(

Don't worry about Eolars XP. He can always turn your bid down. Decide what you want and ask Eolar.

I am looking for things to make me less easy to kill - and therefore better use to the party. If Eolar could make a cloak of resistance (say +3?) or a stone of good luck, that would be very nice indeed.

The other thing that would be very useful would be to add some magical protection property to my elven chainmail - ie make it into elven chain +2 or something. Is that possible?

Cloak of Resistance +X: possible
Luckstone: Possible but quite expensive. Eolar would have to find lots of free time to do that :)

Increasing enhancement bonuses of armour/weapons etc: Possible, but only when Eolar reaches next level (since he will take craft armour/weapons)

I'll have to see how much Eolar could do. He is working on Chens Ion stone at the moment and will let you know.

Mendez will give you 4,000gp for them.
He doesn’t remotely need them, but he just can’t stand to see magic slipping through his fingers!
:)

Cloak of resistance at whatever highest bonus you are willing to go to then. And then we can talk next time about magicing up my elven chain!!
Thesis will also accept Mendez' offer for the gloves but he is only willing to accept what he paid for them (3125gp) ;)

OK, but let me at least throw in an evening's debauchery!
The brandy and women on me!
(Not literally... well maybe?)

I might also suggest that Thesis gets first dibs on any magic in the next adventure...
