Hit Points

As a player, the thing I loathed the most was going up a level and then rolling a 1 for increased Hit Points.
I've spoken to Assif and he's agreed that the minimum you can role on level advancement is half you maximum possible.
This means A Wizard must get at least a 2 on a D4. A rogue must get at least 3 on a D6 etc.
Roll the Hit dice as normal and any roll under half rounds up.
Therefore a Fighter getting 5 Hit points on level advancement is still 5 times more likely than rolling a 6 or above.
Still, 5 is a great deal more acceptable than 1!
My maths may be a bit dodgy but I hope this is OK with everyone.

To make it clear, you still get one roll, it is just the low rolls are automatically changed to the (low) average.

This means that the avg number of hit-points per level doesn't go up that much :

HD 1d4 avg 2.5 new avg 2.75
HD 1d6 avg 3.5 new avg 4.00
HD 1d8 avg 4.5 new avg 5.25
HD 1d10 avg 5.5 new avg 6.50
HD 1d12 avg 6.5 new avg 7.75

sort of like about +1 con for a fighter or +1/2 con for a rogue - not too bad.
What it does do though is ensure that there aren't any characters with less than the (old) average number of hit-points out there. Can't be a bad thing.

This system is incidentally better than, say, rolling twice and taking the highest. This results in both a higher average and a residual chance of a really low roll (e.g a 1d8 average is now 6.375, but a 1 will still be rolled once in 64 attempts).

So, all in all I approve. :)

As it was the only chance for Eolar (who rolled a 2 on a d8) to get a decent increase in HP, I think it's a brilliant idea :-D

I agree.
4 is bearable, but 2?!
2 makes you feel like staying at 1st level.
So Eolar has 12hp+Con bonus.
Not bad at all.

So by proposing this rule, I guaranteed myself a minimum of 5hp for my next level as a fighter.
What did I role?
5!
Curses!

I've also rolled, but your rule did me a favour! My three became a five!!

Eolar has 21 HP already. Cleric Lvl 1 rolled 8 (I once was lucky!) + 3 Con + Ranger Lvl 1 rolled 4 + 3 Con + 3 because I'm extra tough (Feat Toughness)
Somebody still has to stand to heal you lot after all ;-)

Just noticed you said 'Ranger'.
Cleric/Ranger?
Tough and clever.
You can use a better weapon now.

And it means he gets great saving throws. (+4,+2,+2). Good combination - wish I'd thought of it!

Actually it doesn't make a lot of difference weapon wise right now as the heavy mace is not too bad. But I can switch to a longbow now. :)
