Hag’s Swag

Mara’ch and Hawkmoon swim to the treasure room and open up the door with the keys found on the old Hag’s dead body.
The room is wide but the ceiling is low. Both adventures are slightly built and the blue kobold has magically shrunken himself.
Still this room gives them a claustrophobic feeling.
The treasure litters the floor in piles but just as Mara’ch reaches for some an eel like creature shots out from its hiding place!
Mara’ch feels a shock of electricity shoot through him but before he can even register it, the eel is gone.
Realising that this might be a problem, Hawkmoon and Mara’ch wait for the others to deal with the annoying eels...

Treasure from the treasure room:

24,000sp
4,000gp
224pp
29 gems
A pearl encrusted comb
A crystal hourglass
A golden cup.

Treasure from the dead Sirens

19 Javelins
8 gems
8 golden tiaras.

Treasure from the dead Hag

A Crystal bowl
A jet-black amulet
3 gems

And a Spell book:

1st) Shield / Feather Fall / Obscuring Mist / Magic Missile / Sleep

2nd) Protection from Arrows / Mirror Image / Blindness / Gust of Wind / Continual Flame

3rd) Lightning Bolt / Water Breathing / Clairvoyance

4th) Ice Wall / Invisibility (Greater)

Let your Wind Blow Free

Eolar finds it impossible to meditate over the incessant whispering of the Iron flask in his pack.
Turning it over in his hands, he can see the writing engraved upon its smooth surface.
It is written in ‘Infernal’ but that is of little consequence to a cleric of St Cuthbert.
A simple prayer deciphers the two phrases:
‘May this flask be your home’ and ‘Be free only to serve’.
By the cool temperature of the flask and the howling whispers he can hear, Eolar can guess that a powerful creature of air is currently trapped inside.
A useful ally in any situation.
The only issue will be when a situation's bad enough to warrant its release.

Let’s Kill the Battered Women and take their Stuff!

The remaining giantess sends one of the children to fetch the ‘boat’.
Hawkmoon , suspecting treachery trails after the boy and watches him like his namesake.
Making his way to the dead leader’s cave, the boy pulls aside a heavy rock and exposes a secondary, smaller cave.
Inside are piles of gold and silver coins, gems and various items that can only be magical.
The giant boy retrieves a small box and moves to come out of the cave.
Despite their obvious size difference, Hawkmoon blocks his path and indicates the rest of the treasure. Simple gestures make it clear that Hawkmoon expects the boy to bring it all.
Scowling, the giant boy does as bidden.
Pulling out sacks, the boy drags the treasure out of the cave and down to where the Party are waiting.

It’s a big haul.
4,012gp.
6,829sp.
241pp.
18 gems.
A golden statuette of Moradin (God of the Dwarves).
An ornamental silver shield of St Cuthbert.
A golden crown set with rubies.
A Tapestry showing a victorious battle of Hextor.
A leather quiver containing 20 arrows.
An Arcane scroll: Identify/Sleep/Web.
An Arcane scroll: Dismissal/Arcane Eye.
Potion.
Potion.
An impressive looking Tower shield.
A Throwing axe.
Some sturdy leather gauntlets with iron rivets.
A chain shirt.
A wooden box that has some Elven words caved on it’s lid: 'Size of a: Box/Boat/Ship'.
And finally a silver flask. (When Durin put it to his ear, he could swear he could hear the sound of the wind and a voice pleading for release.)
Also, Hawkmoon hands over the Masterwork, 'flaming' sword he found tied onto the Fomorian chief’s spear.

Not wanting to hang around for the returning giant warriors, the Party make haste back to Bodush’s ‘Magnificent mansion’ where they can divide up their 'earnings' in safety.

Lost at Sea

With not much time between sessions I shouldn’t need to remind you of what’s happened but…

The Sky-ship was destroyed completely but everyone except two of the horses and one the children made it to the beach.
Thesis and Eolar encountered an oddly proportioned giant with a head approximately one-third the size of its entire body.
They killed it, but not before Thesis heard it cry for its Mummy.
That was two hours ago.
It is about 3pm.
The beach is inhospitable with sharp rocks and only shallow caves. Despite this the sailors and the Hamster-men collapsed as soon as they realised they were safe(ish).
Above the beach is a steep but small cliff-face and then Scrubland.

Roly’s two massive treasure chests were lost to the sea and the fat Cleric looks disconsolate.
Durin’s backpack and all its contents are also lost and anything not carried by the Party members is gone. (Be honest.)
The corpse of the colossal Roc has also been dragged beneath the waves by the Kraken and although unseen, you all have the feeling that it’s just a few fathoms under the surface… Waiting.
Debris from the battle is washing its way towards shore though. Mostly wooden wreckage, but some rope and possibly a few other useful items…

Hawkmoon has retained the map and compass, but how are you going to get off the Island?

Eolar: How many spells does he have left? Is he injured?
Thesis: Although easily defeating the giant baby, the sixty-foot dive onto water hurt him. How badly?
Bodush: Has used up all his 3rd, 5th and 6th level spells. What has he got left? Is he injured?
Durin: Was battered in the Roc’s single attack. He’s raged twice. How’s he feeling?
Hawkmoon: The Elf of arrow reliance has to be running low on arrows!
Mara'ch: Even rubbish spells run out. What’s he got left?
Ragnar: Who held his stuff when he turned all furry?
Roly: Strangely has more on him now than when first encountered.
7 x Children: With nothing left but their ragged clothes.
2 x Hamster-men: With nothing left but their leather harnesses.
4 x Sailors: Their quick thinking saved your lives, but they now seem dazed.
2 x riding horses: In an environment too jaggedy to canter on.
Meldo: has managed to reach some overhanging grass and is munching happily.

Everyone modify their character sheets to show the loss of equipment and keep track of spells/special abilities used and Hit points lost.

Assif’s probably got everyone’s HP’s down though, so please bring your Laptop.

Treasure Update

Since Eolar had time now and a shop to sell stuff that was on his and Elogyn's horse here a quick update and the spoils of the battle at Bodush mansion:

From the ambush on the way to the mines and the fight with Jack McCall at the entrance to the mine (Eolar took the things that were worth selling onto the horses):

From the ambush of the orc guards:

Eolar, Chen, Durin and Bodush get: 1072.5gp and 100gp in gems
Also 4x CMW potions (150gp ea) (Not sure if somebody took them already)

From the fight against Jack McCall at the entrance of the mine
1x Ring of protection +2 (4000gp)
1x Dagger + 3 (Mendez, 9151gp)
1x Potion of Barkskin (150gp)
Also not sure about the potion and the ring. I'm sure somebody said they took them!
Please say it again :)

Eolar, Chen, Durin, Wer, Bodush get 2216.83gp
Mendez owes 6934.17

From the battle at Bodush Mansion:
Eolar, Hawkmoon, Durin, Wer, Bodush and Thes-Hiss get:
3718.3gp
150gp in gems
For a list of available items/prices please refer to the treasure post from Kirk

So far the following people have pointed on items:

Hawkmoon wants the ring of counterspells (2000gp) and a battleaxe that isn't there?
Thes-Hiss wants CSW potions (we have 7 available, 375 ea)
Eolar wants the greataxe (which I guess also Hawkmoon wants)

So if you don't post soon that you also want something, the stuff is considered sold!

[UPDATE]
I just found the post from the first ambush again and the list up there in this post was wrong. The post is labelled "Mines of Terroth Part1" and was below the post for Pearlglen. So I missed it. Assif, I take this list then as compared to the list you guessed in the email. So here the updated treasure for that encounter (Eolar had taken the splintmails and the bastard swords on the horses):

Eolar, Chen and Bodush get: 8460gp + 100gp gems
Durin claimed the battleaxe +4 from that encounter (=16155) and owes: 7595gp

From that encounter we had:
1 Potion of CMW (150), one of darkvision (150) and 1 potion of non-detection (375) as well as 3 greataxes + 2 (4160). Did anybody take one of them? Then take off the money :)

If you've already updated your treasure chests, please amend the amounts accordingly.

Cheketa’s Spoils

The Party take their time going through the ruined husks of the golems and the skeletons but they find nothing of interest until they get to the Orcesses.

Considering he is at home and surrounded by more than adequate supplies of wine and owl feathers, Bodush ‘Identifies’ everything of interest.
(It costs him.19 pearls!)

Cheketa was their obvious leader and was dressed in surprising finery considering her Orcish upbringing.

She has:
A Ring of Counterspells. (Sale value: 2,000gp)
A Masterwork Silver Sickle. (Sale value: 163 gp)
2 x Potion of Cure Serious Wounds. (Sale value: 375gp each)
A pouch containing: (4 gems worth 100gp each.)
A silver necklace: (Worth 300gp.)

Thora though at least partially responsible for her mistresses death, was Cheketa’s second in command.

She has:
+2 Great Axe of Dwarven bane. (Sale value: 9,155gp)
+1 Heavy Crossbow. (Sale value: 1,175gp)
+2 Chain shirt. (Sale value: 2,625gp)
A Potion of Cure Serious Wounds. (Sale value: 375gp)
20 crossbow bolts. (Sale value: 1gp)
A pouch containing: (6 gems worth 50gp each.)

The Sisterhood Rogues all had matching equipment:

6 x Short swords +1 (Sale value: 1,155gp each)
6 x Potion of Cure Serious Wounds. (Sale value: 375gp)
6 x Masterworks Studded leather armour. (Sale value: 87.5 gp)
6 x Masterworks Light crossbow. (Sale value: 167.5gp)
6 x 20 crossbow bolts. (Sale value: 1gp)
6 x A pouch containing: (5 gems worth 10gp each.)

We can mint our own Gold pieces!

Chen:

9467gp

Eolar/Elogyn:

2 Red Garnets (100gp each)
9467gp

Wer:
Jewlery piece: 1000gp each

I guess that means that Wer can afford the Ring and the Raven.

Treasure

You search Hobliah's and Lerrius' bodies and the temple and you find quite a haul, considering the ease with which you cleared the temple. After separating what rightfully belongs to the villagers, and sneakily using some of the famous Pearlglen pearls to identify items (!) you are left with:

Goodness is its own Reward

Any doubts he had about killing the Gnome evaporate as Mendez discovers the remains of the Sylvan skins.
He'd have killed the Gnome for no other reason than that.
In a moment quite unlike Mendez, he leaves without even looking at the treasure.

The only Magic that I noticed was the 'Circlet of Blasting' and that seems a bit gay even for Mendez.
;)
As the treasure was mostly stolen from Pearlglen, I say we give it back to them.

Money for no Hope

Once safely back in city, Mendez went immediately to see the leader of the Gom Dalat army.
He told Commander Thul of the hundreds of Powerful Orc warriors that they had killed as well as the Ogre legions and Druid leaders.
He also told of the scores of Black cloaks killed but of their ultimate victory. It’s with a bitter whisper that he spoke of the successful summoning of the immense blue Dragon and foul Devil.
It was at this point that Mendez fudged the truth.
He went on to explain that the Party were caught in the middle of a sprawling battle and only when the Black cloaks had proved victorious, were the Party forced to trick their way out with lies and the promise of loyalty.
As Commander Thul rose slowly to his feet, Mendez coughed and reminded the ashen-faced man of his promised reward for information.

AfterMaths

The massive Thesis hands over thirty of his precious pearls to the spindly Bodush who adds them to his own four.
The young Sorcerer, armed with these pearls, several bottles of dark red wine and a basketful of owl's feathers, staggers off to find some privacy.
He emerges late the next day with a pained look but a smile on his lips.

The Party travel back to Gom Dalat unmolested and find it relatively easy to sell the magical treasure.
(But not to whoever took over Quart's magical emporium!)

Mendez takes the 'Brooch of Shielding' (1,500gp) and the 'Ring of the Ram' (12 charges) (2,064 gp) plus 1x 'Potion of Cure Serious Wounds' (3d8+5)(750gp), 1x 'Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds' (2d8+3) (300gp) and 2x 'Potions of Cure Light Wounds' (1d8+1)(50gp).

He also takes the 2x 'Composite Longbows +2' (+2) (8600gp ea) and the remaining 2 x 'Rings of Protection' +1 (2,000 gp) for his brothers.

Mendez PAYS in: 13,140gp.

Durin takes 2x 'Potions of Cure Moderate Wounds' (2d8+3)(300gp) and 1 x 'Potion of Eagle's Splendor' (300 gp).

Durin also gets: 10,384gp. (Not bad for hardly being there!)

Thesis takes 2x 'Potions of Cure Moderate Wounds' (2d8+3)(300gp) and 2x 'Potions of Cure Serious Wounds' (3d8+5)(750gp).

Thesis also gets: 14,234gp plus 340gp worth of gems and + 8sp (-30 pearls but already compensated for in the money).

Bodush takes the 'Staff of Fire' (36 charges) (12,780 gp).

Bodush also gets: 954gp plus 340gp worth of gems and + 8sp (-4 pearls but already compensated for in the money).

Chen takes the 'Ring of Force Shield' (8,500 gp).

Chen also gets: 5,284gp plus 340gp worth of gems and + 8sp.

Wer takes a 'Ring of Protection +1' (2000gp), the 'Ring of Mind Shielding' (8000gp), the 'Ring of Counterspells' (4000gp) and the 'Leather armour +2' (4160gp),
(We previously agreed that leather armour can be altered to fit.)
You do realise that you can only use two rings at a time right?

Wer PAYS in: 4,487gp (If she can afford it?)

No-one wanted the Intelligent and perversely good 'Bastard' sword. It was worth over 20,000gp!

I ignored all the mundane stuff. It's beneath Mendez to scrabble around in the mud for used weapons and armour. (If anyone wants any of it, they can demean themselves for it.)

I also didn't include the 'Cursed' armour. What sort of hypocrite would Mendez be if he passed that on?

Actually boys, we've done pretty well out of this.

Revise your character sheets and make sure you can carry all that money.

(If you want to exchange it for precious gems, you can in the jewellers quarter for a 5% commission.)

XP and treasure from hell

Ok, evil always rewards it's followers generously, here the current XP points:

Eolar: Level 16: 122295 xp - LEVEL UP!
Mendez: Level 16: 121173 xp - LEVEL UP!
Bodush: Level 14: 95300 xp

You did manage to kill quite a lot of guys in the end.
As for treasure, I didn't post treasure after the fight with the elves and the ogres, we include that now (prepare yourselves for a loooong list):

From the elves:
2 rings (m)
3 scrolls
3 wands
short sword (m)
bracers (m)
2 composite longbows +2 (m)
2 studded leathers (m)
+ arrows (taken by Mendez) and other normal stuff (food, axes, throwing axes, etc)

1 composite longbow +5
1 Greatsword
1 Chain shirt
4 Greatclubs
4 Hide armours
2 rings (m)

From the battlefield:
lots of: all types of non-magic swords and armour and shields. If you are looking for something specific, let me know and I'll tell you.
Rummaging through everything, you find the following gold and magic stuff:

1 full plate armour
3 rings
11 potions
2 scrolls
2 staffs
1 bastard sword
1 great sword
3 leather armours
1 brooch
A pile of gold coins (5245gp)
Some gems (1700gp)

From the dragon you get a bag full of gems (after some serious talking between the highest living BC and him). You estimate their value to be 5000gp.

That should be everything I hope. Sorry that it took so long, but the free day I had on the weekend I spent sleeping after a long night.....

Baator out of Hell

Mendez steels himself and strides towards the gigantic Dragon and the merely enormous Devil.
“Welcome to Fissa my Lords. We have managed to protect your Sorcerers and keep the Chaotic Elves and Orcs from disrupting your journey. Now that you are both safe, our work here is finished. I would be grateful for the payment promised by your agent. ‘All the gold and jewels we could want’ is what was offered, but magic is what I truly crave.”
Trying not to flinch under these demi-gods stares, Mendez holds his ground.

Pearls amongst Swine

Mendez stays alert while searching for his arrows. He casually searches any Orc he passes for money purses but ignores the surprisingly high quality armour and weapons.
Using a comedy stage whisper, just for effect, Mendez calls to Thesis.
“Find anything useful?”

Well did we Sven?

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Arrowthmetic

Mendez’ smile falters as he sees the two arrows embedded in the ground in front of the Black cloaks.
Calling back his teammates Mendez gestures toward the arrows.
“Bodush and Chen, you guard our ‘friends’ while Thesis checks for treasure and I try to find some of my wayward arrows. I figure I shot fifty-three, but at least half of them missed. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to recover a dozen or so undamaged ones.
The Orc armour and equipment, although expensive, is too heavy to carry and I’m afraid if we try to hide it, we’ll get a nasty reception when we attempt to retrieve it later.
Did the Druids have anything of interest?”

XP for a Small Orc Army

Well, after calculating around for a while I finally arrived at an acceptable number :) To answer the first question: I've considered you in a very favourable position which reduced overall XP a bit.

***Experience***

Eolar: Level 15: 112070 xp - LEVEL UP! Did something near the valley (Yes, post coming!)

***Treasure***

Well, the treasure is distributed over 52 bodies scattered in a wider area. Do you search all the bodies? Do you attempt to find the druid bodies? If you don't search all the bodies, how much time do you want to spend searching? The cloaks urge you to move on but you can decide about the time. You quickly search 15 orc bodies that you find in the area and they lead to:
- 7 bastard swords (Masterwork)
- 7 shields (large, steel)
- 15 breast plates (Masterwork)
- 8 Crossbows (light)
